The Equalizer 2014
Story Line:
Robert McCall (Washington) is living a regular life working at a hardware store. We begin to see that he has a mysterious past as his co-workers are always guessing where he had worked prior to his current job. He helps his co-workers and this establishes McCall’s true nature. He demonstrates his discipline throughout his day but it is at night we see that he is haunted by demons. He has trouble sleeping and every night at around two in the morning he goes to the local diner. There he sees and befriends a prostitute named Teri (Moretz). They talk about the book McCall is reading “The Old Man and The Sea”. She is then called to work where she goes outside to a waiting limousine. The next night she has fresh bruises on her face and soon things get worse for Teri. One of the Russians that control Teri give McCall a card and tell him they will send him a different girl.
After Teri is hospitalized with a gruesome beating McCall decides to stop denying his past and put it to work to help this young woman. He goes to the Russians and offers them $9800 to buy Teri’s freedom. When the money is not accepted McCall is forced into action and this action drives us right through the rest of the movie. The Russians send in their best man to fix the situation Teddy (Csokas).
Antoine Fuqua teams up with Denzel Washington for the second time (Training Day) and they deliver another excellent movie. Denzel Washington is excellent once again and continues to deliver fantastic performances every movie he acts in. Marton Csokas brings a powerful performance that balances perfectly with our main character. We watch as these two adversaries move along towards their inevitable showdown. I was most impressed with how this movie, which is a little over two hours, did not lag at all. This is very good movie and I highly recommend you watch it.
