Story Line:

This winter the December 17 will go down in history as the date the third and final – ever – Tolkien movie is released in the US. For over a decade audiences have been captivated, thrilled and amazed by the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies but all this is set to end on December 12 (general release). The premiere, the date of which is yet to be announced, will presumably take place in Middle Earth’s spiritual home of New Zealand and is set to be the movie event of the year.Tolkien never completed The Silmarillion. This was a labour of love undertaken by Christopher after his father’s death; editing and posthumously publishing the comprehensive history of the Middle Earth universe in 1977. The task competely took over Christopher’s life; he even resigned from his teaching post at the University of Oxford to sort through the 70 boxes of research left behind by his father. It’s this intimate connection with the work that many fans believe to be the real reason Christopher is so reluctant to allow it onto the big screen.
